FENG SHUI FUNDAMENTALS: ACHIEVING HARMONY IN YOUR HOME
When entering a space, you might notice that you can immediately pick up on the energy, it can feel peaceful and calming, or perhaps it might feel heavy and uninviting. In essence, Feng Shui is the practice of making adjustments to uplift and redirect the energy of your space in order to achieve your goals and lead a more balanced and fulfilled life.
The Fundamentals of Feng Shui
The Feng Shui school we practice is BTB (Black Sect Tantric Buddhism) and it is rooted in 3 fundamental concepts; Chi, The Five Elements, and the Bagua map.
Chi: Chi is the life force energy that flows through all things. Our homes are filled with chi, and we each have our own personal chi that can be very affected by our surroundings. Through Feng Shui, we make adjustments to the chi of our space to achieve harmony in your home.
The Five Elements: Feng Shui uses the five elements of Taoism to inform our practice. These elements are earth, metal, water, wood, and fire. Each element has its own unique qualities and associations, and when applied thoughtfully, can be used to enhance the energy of a space.
The Bagua: The bagua is an energetic map that shows which parts of your home is associated with a certain part of your life, such as wealth, love, career etc. Each sector of the Bagua has it’s own attributes, and we use this tool to assess where to make changes or adjustments in your home to help your space reflect your goals.
How can we apply these concepts in our space?
My main goal when approaching a space, whether through decor or organization, is to uplift the chi. When addressing the chi of a space, I will apply the properties of the five elements to help support the client’s goals. For instance, home organization projects can always make use of the metal element, and on an interior design project I may add an area rug to bring in the stability properties of earth element.
The Bagua map comes into consideration when I am adding accessories to a space, as plants and small decor items can be a simple way to activate certain sectors in order to address your intention in the space. Ultimately, my goal is to help my clients create homes that reflect their unique vision, while also being supportive and balanced. I am grateful to have the beautiful practice of Feng Shui to guide me in this process.
